Master of Bioinformatics

The Master of Bioinformatics degree is offered through the Graduate Program in Genomic Sciences. It requires a minimum of 33 credit hours, consisting of eight core lecture/laboratory courses in genomic sciences and bioinformatics, journal club, and electives. Students must maintain a B average or above.

The Master's degree is a nonthesis degree. Students must pass a final oral examination, usually at the end of two years of study.

Bioinformatics Curriculum

Students in the program have desk space in the Bioinformatics Research Center.

Advisory Committees

Students meet with each core bioinformatics faculty member during their first semester to select their major advisor. Students form an advisory committee and file a plan of work within the first year of graduate study. The advisory committee for master's degree students must be comprised of at least three NC State faculty: one specializing in bioinformatics, one in functional genomics, and a third faculty member.
