How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the NC State University Program in Bioinformatics. We look forward to receiving your on-line application, which you can access through through the Graduate School web site. This site will guide you through the application process.

Deadline for Fall Enrollment

January 15 is the deadline for applications for fall enrollment.

Application Fee

US citizens and permanent residents:  $55
Internationals (nonresident aliens):  $65

Application fees are not refundable. Submitted applications are considered to be received when the application fee is received.

Application Form

The on-line application for the Bioinformatics program is accessed through the Graduate School web site. In the Desired Major section, indicate Bioinformatics. The Department and College sections can be left blank because the program is interdepartmental. The Graduate School no longer accepts or processes paper applications.

Financial Aid

All graduate students admitted to the bioinformatics and statistical genetics programs are considered for all forms of financial assistance for which they are eligible. These include federal training grants, university fellowships, teaching and research assistantships and graduate industrial traineeships. Faculty will also be pleased to help US citizens apply for individual federal fellowships.

GRE and TOEFL Requirements

Applicants must take the GRE general test. GRE subject tests are not required.

International applicants must also take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), unless:

  1. the applicant has already completed, with acceptable grades, at least one year of full-time study in a degree program at a four-year U.S. college or university; or
  2. the applicant is from, or has a degree from, Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom..

The NC State University code for the GRE and TOEFL is 5496. Applicants for the Program in Bioinformatics can leave the department code blank.
