Course Prerequisite

There are no formal prerequisites. However, it is assumed that students will have some background in either molecular genetics (GN 311) or statistics (ST511 or ST 521). Programming experience is helpful but not required.

Homework

There will be four homework assignments spaced throughout the semester. The assignments will serve to reinforce the concepts discussed in class, as well as to provide practical experience with existing bioinformatics tools and resources. Check the homework page for updates and corrections.

Examinations

There will be one midterm and one comprehensive final examination.

• The midterm is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21st.
• The final examination is scheduled according to University guidelines for 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 9th.

Grading System (subject to revision)

Final grade will be based on:

• 40% Homework (Four assignments, equally weighted)
• 25% Midterm Exam (Scheduled for Wednesday, October 21st in class)
• 35% Final Exam (Scheduled for Wednesday, December 9th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm)

Auditing

Auditors are expected to attend class regularly and submit homework on the same schedule as the other students. The final grade for auditors (AU or NR) will be based on class performance.

For this course group work on homework is encouraged. However copying someone else's work and calling them your own is plagiarism, so the work you turn in should be your own.
